Catching Up

I spent the day today catching up on things that have been neglected lately. There’s always more to do it seems. I got to thinking how it would be nice to not be constantly trying to catch up but be able to be more proactive in planning ahead, especially with back-to-school next week.

That made me think of a conversation I had with a young man recently. He told me he had been held back. Ugh. I hate that terminology. I don’t remember exactly what I said to him. The gist of it was that he hadn’t been held back so much as he was being given the foundation to be able to move forward with gusto. Pushing someone forward before they’re ready, holds them back more.

I’m all for living in the present. Our past doesn’t define us and all that. However, if we don’t like where we are in life, we need to know how we got there. Maybe, like me, there’s too much stuff in our house or maybe it’s a job we don’t like, or debt, or a stressful relationship, or too many unhealthy habits.

We have to deal with the clutter, or the debt, or the habits in order to empower ourselves to create the life we want.

So, I will be okay with what I accomplished today.
